Inverness overview

‘The Gateway to the Highlands’ is one of Europe’s fastest growing centres and is best known among tourists for Loch Ness; that nearby long lake said to be the home of Nessie, the scary plesiosaur. Inverness sits up in the northeast of Scotland and takes a bit of get-up-and-go to make the effort to get there as the town itself is fairly remote and typical. It resides on the banks of the Caledonian Canal and has pleasant enough shopping areas, yet if it weren’t for the allure of the Loch Ness Monster, it wouldn’t be so popular. Those here for the duration will discover a half-decent cultural life and museums and galleries, and there is even a centre all about the kilt. Luckily, Inverness has an airport.
