Isle of Skye overview

Isle of Skye Travel Guide
Only those into remote pastures with beautiful scenery need head up to the Isle of Skye; the largest of the Inner Hebrides island group off Scotland’s west coast. Skye boasts a remarkable landscape and its capital, Portree, is in the middle of the island, making it a good launch point. There are plenty of other ancient towns to check out on the Isle of Skye and the best way is via your own wheels. Hikers will find plenty of lonely trails to explore, too, and there are castles and some intriguing natural structures worth a look, such as the Old Man of Storr. While remote and a long way north, you can get to the Isle of Skye by driving without stopping, plus there is also rail access to Portree, the main centre.
